Indiknow, Rohtak : Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed the Irrigation Department to ensure that the cleaning and desilting of all major drains passing through Rohtak district is completed by June 30, as part of the district administration’s comprehensive monsoon preparedness and flood management strategy.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed ongoing drain maintenance works during field inspections of Drain No. 8 on Bhiwani Road and the Rohtak Link Drain passing through Mayna and Shimli villages. He assessed the progress of desilting operations and issued necessary directions to officials for timely completion of all works before the onset of peak monsoon activity. Sachin Gupta informed that nearly 50 percent of the district-wide drain cleaning work has already been completed, while desilting operations are continuing at multiple locations to ensure smooth water flow and prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. During his visit to Mayna village, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the desilting work being carried out on the Rohtak Link Drain through departmental machinery. He directed officials to ensure proper disposal and lifting of the silt removed from the drain so that it does not wash back into the drainage channel during rainfall. He emphasized that maintaining unobstructed drainage channels is essential for effective flood management and protection of agricultural as well as residential areas during the monsoon season.
Strengthening of Rohtak Link Drain Enhances Flood Protection :
The Deputy Commissioner subsequently inspected embankment strengthening works along the Rohtak Link Drain near Shimli village. Officials informed that the Irrigation Department has constructed concrete retaining walls along a 1,100-foot vulnerable stretch of the drain at a cost of approximately ₹1.75 crore. The project has been undertaken to strengthen the embankments and safeguard nearby areas from potential damage during periods of heavy discharge and water accumulation. Sachin Gupta reviewed the structural measures adopted for strengthening the drain and sought detailed information regarding emergency water evacuation arrangements and flood-response preparedness. He reiterated that all flood prevention, drainage improvement and desilting works must be completed within prescribed timelines to ensure the district remains fully prepared ahead of the monsoon season. The inspection was attended by Executive Engineer Rajeev Rathi and other officials of the Irrigation Department.
